After visiting the Paradise side yesterday, returned to Sunrise today to do an old favorite (Burroughs) plus Mount Fremont for the first time. Views were great! The lower portion of the trail had meadows of beautiful wildflowers. You start your hike at Sunrise at 6,400-feet making this journey pretty manageable. Gorgeous views at the top. 17miles of dirt road as mentioned, however, much better than the last time I drove it. Wear bug spray. Just 0.2 miles in, the access trail will fork- keep to the left and continue your climb to the Sourdough Ridge Trail. While the bugs can be a bit nasty here in July and August, this otherwise is a lovely spot to admire the insanely clear water of the lake and rest up for the final push to the top (and see if you can spot the teeny tiny fire lookout on the ridge above!). Was going for something shorter with less elevation, but somehow ended up doing the whole loop. Gorgeous hike.
